"Ceiling after Pillement" Private Residence, Golden Beach, Fl.
20' x 15' Oil and Acrylic on Plaster.
The ceiling
mural adorning the The Walnut Study Room of Alexander Menshikov at the
Menshikov Palace was reproduced by request of the client at their residence in
South
Florida. The original ceiling mural painting was done on canvas by Philippe Pillement, an
18th-century French Artist who traveled to Russia on the recommendation of Jean-Baptiste
LeBlond. There is subtle variation on the scroll motifs
of Pillement's work, where every flower in the pattern is recognizable. At the
center, a luxurious umbrella-like rosette somehow calls to mind the extravagant 18th Century
Russian art.
